OLED Breakthrough

This is very, very geeky but I’m rather excited about this latest breakthrough with Organic LEDs. I’ve been a fan of OLED ever since getting my Create Zen Vision:M which has one, offering, I think, a much more natural, easier on the eye way of viewing things than a traditional OLED screen. An OLED screen is (at a very basic level) just paper which has been cover with the magical OLED ink which can then be used to display images. In theory this could one day be used for making digital paper a reality but the men in white coats are also thinking along the lines of using this for making cheaper, more efficient lighting solutions (and I believe them), the only catch being the limit to maximum possible brightness but since this has now been broken (well raised) then we’re a lot closer. Imagine, one day instead of having light bulbs we could just have our ceilings painted with OLEDs which could then either show glow all white (giving a more natural, outside light effect) or only glow in the middle, or around the edges, or in patterns or show images. I personally quite like the idea of having clouds gentlely scrolling overhead.
